Leading light of Birmingham's Law Society awarded with honorary doctorate

Dr Eileen Schofield, Chair of Birmingham Law Society and a distinguished alumna of Birmingham City University (BCU), has been honoured with an honorary doctorate in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the legal profession and the wider Birmingham community.

A 1996 graduate of BCU, Dr Schofield began her legal career with several prominent roles, including a position at leading law firm Irwin Mitchell, before founding her own legal practice. Her impact was formally acknowledged in 2018 when she was named BCU’s Alumni of the Year.

Throughout her career, Dr Schofield has represented both employers and employees in a range of employment matters, including cases of unfair dismissal, redundancy, discrimination, whistleblowing, and data protection.

The honorary award also celebrates her sustained engagement with Birmingham City University’s law programmes, with her support being instrumental in enhancing both the quality of legal education and the employability of future graduates.

Eileen’s experiences in the legal sector across Birmingham have been invaluable in shaping the approach BCU with her experience and ongoing sectoral leadership helping shape the next generation of legal professionals.
