Named for “narratio”—the art of storytelling—the Nattario Quartet brings rhetorical flair and expressive depth to Beethoven’s string quartets. Since its 2009 debut performing the late quartets on period instruments, the ensemble has toured internationally and completed the full Beethoven cycle multiple times, expanding its repertoire to Brahms, Schubert, and Mendelssohn.
In this program, the Nattario Quartet explores three distinct facets of Beethoven’s genius:
• Op. 18 No. 2: A witty, graceful early quartet echoing Haydn’s charm, brought to life with playful clarity.
• Op. 95 “Serioso”: A compact, emotionally charged work reflecting Beethoven’s inner turmoil, performed with raw intensity.
• Op. 59 No. 3 “Razumovsky”: A bold, expansive piece full of mystery and brilliance, showcasing Beethoven’s boundary-pushing spirit.
