On results day, emotions may be high and picking up the phone may be scary for your child, find out what's involved in the Clearing call so you can reassure them that there's nothing to be worried about.
Here's what to do when your child is ready to start calling universities:
1. Get ready
Firstly, grab them a drink and settle in for their chat with one of our friendly advisors. Remember, they are here to help your child find their perfect course, so there’s no need to be nervous.
If you’re calling on results day, there may be a queue but don’t worry, you’ll get through!
Top tip: make sure your child is the person giving us a call. We can’t talk about their application with friends, parents or carers, so make sure they're the one doing the talking.
2. The call
During the clearing call, we'll ask a number of things, for example:
- Personal details (name, address, email, phone number).
- UCAS number and Clearing number – you should be able to find these on the UCAS Hub account.
- The name of the course(s) they want to apply for.
- Their esults – both A-Level/BTEC/T-Level and your GCSEs or equivalents. Make sure to tell us the subject and the name of your qualification (e.g. BTEC Extended Diploma).
- Any questions they might want to ask us!
If your child is applying directly to us without a UCAS account, then we may have a few more questions but don't worry, the application won't take too long!
Top tip: Make sure to have a pen and paper to note any important details down.
3. Get a place!
Hopefully, your child will be fully prepared and informed ahead of Clearing. When they have their results, give us a call on 0121 331 6777.
If there's anything you or your child aren't sure about, we’re here to help and give any advice and guidance you need.
Good luck!
What's next?
If your child is mad an offer over the phone, they'll receive an email to confirm any next steps they need to take, including sorting out their accommodation and student finance. Remember, your child can always give us a ring again to confirm anything they're unsure of.
