Birmingham International Piano Festival: Celebrity Public Piano Masterclass
Karl-Heinz Simon, Dean of Keyboard Studies, Dresden
Karl-Heinz Simonstudied piano with Professors Peter Eicher, Maria Jesus Crespo (Barcelona) and Josef Anton Scherrer (Cologne). He also regularly participated in masterclasses with, among others, Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Lev Natochenny, Aquiles Delle Vigne and especially Nikita Jushanin. His active concert schedule as a soloist, in piano duos, and as a chamber musician has taken him to numerous German and European cities and festivals, including the International Piano Duo Festival in Bad Herrenalb, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, and Ludwigsburg Palace. Several CD and radio recordings of his performances are available.
From an early age, he dedicated himself to fostering young pianists. Numerous students from his class have won prizes at national and international competitions. He regularly leads artistic and pedagogical workshops and is invited to serve as a juror at piano competitions. He was artistic director of the Rhineland-Palatinate Cultural Summer Festival in Germersheim until 2018 and has been Professor of Piano and Piano Methodology at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden since 2017.
